Name

Della K. Pappas

Obituary
It is with profound sadness we mourn the death of Della Lellenberg Pappas, age 77, mother of James (Diane), Patricia (Solon) Tsaoussis (a name she could not pronounce correctly even after twenty five years of marriage), George and Lucy (Bart) Kline (a name she could pronounce but not spell correctly) and her son Spiro who preceded her in death in 1997. Nineteen years is a very long time to carry the grief of losing a child. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John; her parents Merle and Ethel and her siblings Neal, Joan and Donald. She was the sister to Gary. She was the grandmother of Nicole, Matthew, Michael, Gregory, Christine, Angela, Cynthia and Julia and great-grandmother to Breanna, Cameron, Matthew, Emlyn and a baby to be named next year. After working at Woolworth's with her mother, Della was hired by IBM in 1957 until she married. She and her husband were restaurateurs, most recently at Ram Restaurant at 79th and Vincennes in Chicago until their retirement in 1998. She raised five children while working full time in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Della enjoyed working and really enjoyed being waited on while eating out. She loved to entertain, especially during the holidays. Della was a voracious reader, enjoyed puttering in her yard, playing cards and video gaming. She loved car rides to Iowa with her daughters, granddaughters and at least one dog. She was feisty, funny, no-nonsense and extremely generous. She loved traveling to Las Vegas and to California to visit her dear sister Joan, and really loved living with her for the last two years of Joan's life. Della was a dedicated nurse to her husband and sister, both of whom she lost to cancer. Then cancer took her too. She loved animals, especially those in her yard, both wild and domesticated. Memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital or PAWS Chicago are gratefully appreciated. The family respectfully requests no flowers, as this was Della's request. Visitation Monday September 26th, 10:30 AM until time of funeral service 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church 7650 S. Archer, Justice IL 60458 Interment Evergreen Cemetery.
