Arlene Dorothy Vanderbilt
Arlene Dorothy Vanderbilt (nee Shimkus); beloved wife of Dr. Paul Vanderbilt; loving mother of Kim (Doug) Meier, Dr. Julie (Timothy) Vanderbilt Edwards and Michelle (Raymond) Sullivan; dearest grandmother of Justin, Amanda, Evan, Ivy, Violet, Beck, Savannah and Chase; dear sister-in-law of Robert Vanderbilt. Arlene attended Longwood Academy and graduated from Marquette University in 1959 with a degree in secondary education. She was very active in both Palos Fine Arts and the Palos Reads Club. She loved music, especially the Opera and Symphony. She was also a Theatre enthusiast, and directed many plays as both a high school and grade school English teacher. Her love of travel, shared with her husband, Paul, led her to places near and far. Some of her most precious moments, however, were spent with her grandchildren - caring for them when they were younger, and then attending sporting events and recitals, as well as shopping for treasures, as they grew. Christmas was the highlight of her year, and she always made the season special for the entire family. Visitation Tuesday 3-9 P.M.
