Name

Umamaheswara R. Dodda

Obituary
Umamaheswara Rao Dodda died on Nov 19, 2017 in Hazel Crest, Il after battling lung cancer for seven months. He was referred to by his family and friends as Mahesh. Mahesh was a loving husband, dad, and brother. He was also a humble, selfless, and generous friend to everyone who had the privilege to know him. Everyone was blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Mahesh during his 66 years, among them: prioritizing family, putting others ahead of you, and blessing others generously. He was born on May 9, 1951 in Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh, India to the late Mr. Raghupati Rao Dodda and the late Mrs. Acchayamma Dodda. He attended college at Andhra University in India and earned degrees in Zoology, Chemistry, and Botany. In 1973, Mahesh decided to embark on a new life and endeavors in the United States. He attended Alabama A&M University where he earned his degree in Food Science. Aside from successful academic merits, he accomplished his greatest achievement in life at the University, meeting his wife, Lillian. They married each other in 1976 and had two sons, Ravi Sankar and Kishore Kumar.
As an unselfish family man and visionary, he sponsored and supported his two younger brothers, Bhavani Prasad and Siva Prasad, and younger sister, Gowri from India so they could have better opportunities to prosper and advance in the United States as he did. Mahesh also facilitated the same for each of their respective spouses to progress in their careers. Professionally, Mahesh had over 36 years of experience and success in the Food Science industry with Amour Swift Eckrich and Conagra Foods. As Director of Product Development, he was responsible for the production of numerous meat products for Swift Eckrich, Butterball, and Healthy Choice. In addition, as Director of Cost Optimization, he saved over 100 million dollars for the company. Mahesh will be remembered as a man who positively encouraged and influenced the lives of everyone with whom he had a relationship. He will always be known for his unlimited generosity, kindness, and love towards everyone. Truly, no person reading this will ever be able to fathom how much Mahesh will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Lillian, sons Ravi (Laura) and Kishore (Jennifer), grandson Maxel Mahesh, brothers Bhavani (Lakshmi) and Siva Prasad (Geetha), sister Gowri (Krishna), nieces Sailaja (Amar), Samantha and Nikita, and nephews Amar, Bhaskar, and Neal. May God rest Mahesh's soul. Visitation/Service 8:30 A.M. until time of Funeral Procession 11:30 A.M.
